Security and the NY SHIELD Act
Reasonable safeguards, built in.
New York’s Attorney General says the SHIELD Act requires “any person or business that maintains private information” to adopt administrative, technical and physical safeguards, and that courts can impose a civil penalty of up to $5,000 per violation for failing to maintain reasonable safeguards. A WordPress site that stores customer accounts, orders or form entries is part of that picture. We keep core, PHP and plugins on supported versions, limit admin access, add two-factor sign-in, keep form data to what you need, and log and back up the site. This is general guidance from the Attorney General’s page, checked 23 Oct 2026, not legal advice; your counsel decides what your programme needs.
