FIG 04 · Rules and dates
Built for Google Play’s 2026 rules
Four Play requirements decide whether your app can launch or update this year. This is the dated view we build from, checked on 23 Oct 2026 at Google’s own pages.
| Requirement | Date | Applies to | What we do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Target API 36 (Android 16) | From 31 Aug 2026; extensions to 1 Nov 2026 | New apps and updates (phone and tablet) | Every new build targets API 36 and is tested against Android 16 behaviour changes |
| 16 KB memory page size | Updates blocked from 1 Feb 2027 | Apps targeting Android 15+ on 64-bit devices | Native libraries and SDKs rebuilt or replaced, then tested on 16 KB devices and emulators |
| Android developer verification | From 30 Sep 2026 in 4 countries; global in 2027 | Apps installed on certified Android devices | Your developer identity and apps registered in your Play Console account |
| Closed test: 12 testers for 14 days | Personal accounts created after 13 Nov 2023 | First production release | A closed test planned into the schedule, with testers recruited early |
Sources: Android Developers target API and 16 KB pages (both updated 16 Oct 2026), Android developer verification and Play Console Help testing requirements, read 23 Oct 2026. Google changes these dates; we re-check them before every release.

Dedicated Android developer vs team extension vs fixed-scope project
We don’t publish rates. This is how the three ways to work with our Android developers compare.
| Dedicated developer | Team extension | Fixed-scope project | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best for | A steady backlog on one app | A release or a backlog spike | A defined app, feature or upgrade |
| Who manages the work | You, in your sprint | You, with our lead | Us, against a written scope |
| How it is priced | Monthly, per developer | Monthly, per team | One fixed quote |
| Play Console and keys | Yours | Yours | Yours |
FIG 17 · Cost
Android app development cost: what drives it
We don’t publish prices. These are the things that move the cost of an Android app, plus the Play fees that keep running after launch.
| Driver | Lower cost | Higher cost |
|---|---|---|
| Devices | Phones only | Phones, foldables, tablets, Wear OS or TV |
| Offline and sync | Online only | Offline-first with conflict handling |
| Native code | Kotlin only | C/C++ libraries to rebuild for 16 KB pages |
| Integrations | One back end | Payments, maps, SSO and enterprise systems |
| Existing app | New build | Upgrading an old app to API 36 and Compose |
Running cost: from 30 Jun 2026 in the US, UK and EEA, Google Play charges a 10% service fee plus a 5% billing fee on auto-renewing subscriptions; other purchases depend on install date and programme (Play Console Help, read 23 Oct 2026). After a free call you get a written scope and a fixed quote.
FIG 18 · Compare
Native Kotlin, Flutter or Kotlin Multiplatform
| Native Kotlin | Flutter | Kotlin Multiplatform | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shared with iOS | Nothing: Android only | UI and logic | Business logic; UI native or shared |
| Platform access | Full, first | Through plugins | Full on each platform |
| Best for | Android-first apps, heavy device features | One team shipping both stores fast | Native UI with shared logic |

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about Android App Development with Elgrith.
We don’t publish prices, because cost depends on scope: the devices you support, offline sync, native libraries, integrations and whether you are upgrading an older app. Budget for running costs too, such as Play’s service fees on subscriptions and in-app purchases. After a free call you get a written scope and a fixed quote.
