FIG 02 · Quick answer

What is white label web development?

White label web development means an outside team designs and builds websites that your agency sells under its own brand. Elgrith works under NDA inside your tools and staging domains, adds no credit links, and assigns all code and IP to your agency in writing, so your clients only ever see you.

Invisible is a written rule, not a promise.

From Google Search Central, the US Copyright Act and WordPress.org, read in October 2026. We explain the rules here; this isn’t legal advice.

FIG 04 · Definition

What is white label web design and development?

White label web design and development is a partnership where a specialist team designs and builds websites that an agency sells, brands and supports as its own work. The client deals only with the agency; the partner stays invisible under an NDA. Here is who does what.

FIG 08 · Invisibility

Our invisibility rules

Written into every white label engagement, so your clients never find a trace of us.

06principles

  • No credit links

No “site by” footer links or template credits. Google lists widely distributed footer and template links as link spam, so they can hurt your client too.

  • No names in code or metadata

No Elgrith names in code comments, commit authors, file metadata, theme headers or CMS user accounts.

  • Staging on your domain

Previews on your domain or a neutral one, never on an Elgrith URL.

  • Your channels only

We reply in your Slack, Jira, ClickUp or email, as part of your team, and never contact your client directly.

  • Your accounts

Hosting, domains, plugins and licenses sit in your or your client’s accounts, not ours.

  • NDA from day one

A mutual NDA before you share any brief, covering your clients, your pricing and the fact we exist.

FIG 09 · Ownership

Who owns the code and IP?

Your agency does, in writing. Here is why the paperwork matters. This explains the rules in general; it isn’t legal advice, so ask your own counsel.

06principles

  • Work for hire isn’t automatic

Under 17 U.S.C. §101, a contractor’s work counts as work made for hire only in set cases, and only if both parties “expressly agree in a written instrument signed by them”.

  • A written IP assignment

So our contract assigns the code, designs and other deliverables to your agency in writing, at the point your contract sets, such as final payment or each milestone.

  • GPL for WordPress

WordPress.org says themes and plugins inherit the GPL. Custom WordPress code we write for you is handed over with that in mind.

  • Third-party licenses listed

Premium plugins, fonts and images are listed in the hand-off pack, with the account that holds each license.

  • You pass rights on

What your client receives is set by your contract with them. We give you everything you need to grant it.

  • Reviewed by your counsel

Our partner terms are in plain English, and we encourage your lawyer to review them before you sign.

FIG 10 · Choosing

How to choose a white label web design agency

Questions to ask any white label partner, us included.

06principles

  • Will they sign a mutual NDA first?

Before you share a single client name. If they hesitate, move on.

  • Do they assign IP in writing?

Ask to see the clause. “You own it” in an email isn’t an assignment.

  • Do they add credit links?

Any footer credit, theme header or author tag can expose you to your client.

  • Can they work in your tools?

Your Slack, your board, your Figma and your staging domains, not a portal with their logo.

  • Can you inspect their work?

Ask for a code sample and their QA checklist, and to see a product they can name.

  • What happens after launch?

Care plans, fixes and changes under your brand, so you can sell ongoing support.

FIG 11 · Process · 7 steps

Your brand. Our build team.

A mutual NDA first, a fixed written quote per project, weekly demos in your tools and a hand-off pack your team can run with.

  1. Step 01

    Partner call and NDA

A free call about your agency, your clients and your stack, then a mutual NDA before you share anything.

  2. Step 02

    Brief and fixed quote

You send the client brief or designs. We send a written scope and a fixed quote to your agency, never to your client.

  3. Step 03

    Setup in your tools

We join your Slack, Jira or ClickUp and Figma, and set up staging on your domain.

  4. Step 04

    Design and build

Built in sprints with weekly demos to your team, so you can show progress to your client.

  5. Step 05

    QA and leak sweep

Our QA checklist across devices, speed, accessibility, forms and SEO basics, plus a sweep for credits, names and metadata.

  6. Step 06

    Launch and hand-off

Deployed to your or your client’s hosting, with a hand-off pack and the code and IP assigned to you in writing.

  7. Step 07

    Care under your brand

Optional care plans and changes after launch, delivered through your support channel.

FIG 16 · Pricing

Reseller margins: how agencies price white label work

We don’t publish prices, and we never set yours. For white label web design resellers, these are the two usual ways to price the work.
