FIG 02 · Quick answer

What are .NET development services?

.NET development services cover building and maintaining web apps, APIs and internal systems on Microsoft’s .NET platform. Elgrith builds with C#, ASP.NET Core, Blazor and EF Core on Azure or AWS, and upgrades older apps to .NET 10, the current long-term-support release, since .NET 8 and 9 reach end of support on 10 November 2026.

FIG 03 · Why it matters

.NET 8 and .NET 9 run out of support on the same day.

From Microsoft’s .NET support policy (last updated 13 Oct 2026), Microsoft Lifecycle and the Stack Overflow Developer Survey 2025, checked on 23 Oct 2026.

FIG 04 · Version check

Is your .NET version supported?

Check the TargetFramework in your .csproj files (net8.0, net9.0, net48 and so on), or run dotnet --list-runtimes on the server, then find it below.

Dates from Microsoft’s .NET and .NET Core support policy (last updated 13 Oct 2026) and the Microsoft Lifecycle page for .NET Framework, which follows the Component Lifecycle Policy; both checked 23 Oct 2026. A new .NET version ships every November, so plan an upgrade at least every two years to stay on a supported LTS.

01

ASP.NET Core web apps

ASP.NET development services for customer portals, internal tools and SaaS products, with Razor Pages or MVC, Identity or Entra ID sign-in, and tests from the first sprint.

02

Web APIs and Minimal APIs

REST and gRPC APIs on ASP.NET Core, versioned, documented with OpenAPI and protected with JWT or OAuth, for the web and mobile apps that use them.

03

Blazor front ends

Interactive web UIs written in C# with Blazor, so one team and one language cover the front end and the back end when that fits the product.

04

Data with EF Core

Entity Framework Core on SQL Server or PostgreSQL, with migrations in the repository, indexes that match the real queries and slow queries fixed.

05

Integrations

ERPs, CRMs, payment providers, Microsoft 365 and legacy SOAP services connected through typed clients, queues and retries, not one-off scripts.

06

Azure or AWS

Azure App Service, Container Apps and Azure SQL, or AWS containers and managed databases, set up as code with CI/CD and staging.

07

Desktop and Windows apps

WPF and WinForms apps kept running and moved to modern .NET where that makes sense, and .NET MAUI where one C# codebase must reach desktop and mobile, scoped case by case.

08

.NET upgrades and rescues

Apps on .NET 8, .NET 9, older .NET Core or .NET Framework moved to .NET 10 LTS, with tests written first where they are missing.

.NET 8 and 9 → .NET 10 upgrades

Moving from .NET 8 or 9 to .NET 10 is usually a retarget plus package updates, not a rewrite. We scope it as a fixed job, test it on staging and ship it with a rollback ready.

FIG 07 · Modernisation

.NET Framework modernisation: what ports and what gets rewritten

.NET Framework 4.8.1 is still supported as a Windows component, so there is no forced date. The cost of staying is Windows-only hosting and a shrinking pool of libraries. We move apps to .NET 10 one area at a time, with the old app running until the new one takes over.

06principles

  • Ports cleanly: MVC and Web API

ASP.NET MVC controllers and Web API endpoints move to ASP.NET Core with changes to startup, configuration, routing and auth.

  • Class libraries

Business logic in class libraries usually retargets with small changes once Windows-only APIs and old packages are found.

  • Needs rework: Web Forms

Web Forms does not exist in ASP.NET Core. Pages are rebuilt in Razor Pages, Blazor or a separate front end, screen by screen.

  • Needs rework: WCF services

WCF server is not part of modern .NET. Services move to gRPC or REST, or to CoreWCF when clients can’t change.

  • Strangler pattern

A YARP reverse proxy routes traffic, new ASP.NET Core endpoints take over one area at a time, and the old app is switched off last.

  • Hosting moves

Off Windows servers and onto containers, Azure or AWS, once the app runs on modern .NET.

    Cloud migration

FIG 08 · Naming

“.NET Core” vs “.NET”: the naming, explained

If you are looking for .NET Core development services, you want modern .NET. Microsoft dropped “Core” from the runtime’s name after .NET Core 3.1: the next release was .NET 5, and every version since, up to .NET 10, is the same cross-platform runtime.

06principles

  • .NET Framework (1.0 to 4.8.1)

The original Windows-only runtime. Still supported as a Windows component; 4.8.1 is the version to be on.

  • .NET Core 1.0 to 3.1

The cross-platform rewrite of .NET. Every .NET Core version is now out of support.

  • .NET 5 and later

The same runtime, renamed. .NET 10 LTS is current; .NET 8 and 9 reach end of support on 10 Nov 2026.

  • ASP.NET Core

The web framework on modern .NET. It kept “Core” in its name, so ASP.NET Core 10 runs on .NET 10.

  • Entity Framework Core

The data-access library for modern .NET. EF Core 10 pairs with .NET 10; EF6 remains for Framework apps.

  • .NET MAUI

Cross-platform UI for mobile and desktop from one C# codebase, the successor to Xamarin.Forms.

.NET development company: how we work

A fixed written quote after a free call, sprints with weekly demos, and an upgrade calendar so the app never drifts out of support. We claim no Microsoft partner tier: judge us on the code we ship, which stays in your repository.

  1. Step 01

    Free call

Tell us what you are building or what is breaking. We ask about users, data, integrations and deadlines, not just the framework.

  2. Step 02

    Code or idea review

For a new app: users, data model and integrations. For an existing app: .NET and package versions, test coverage, hosting and the parts of the code nobody wants to touch.

  3. Step 03

    Fixed written quote

A written scope, a fixed quote and the plan for versions, hosting and hand-over, before any work starts.

  4. Step 04

    Sprints with weekly demos

Two-week sprints in your repository, with pull requests you can read, tests in CI and a demo on staging every week.

  5. Step 05

    Launch

A planned release to Azure, AWS or your own servers, with health checks, a rollback ready and the next upgrade date written down.

  6. Step 06

    Support and upgrades

Security releases applied in a patch window agreed in your written scope, plus planned upgrades before your versions lose support.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about .NET Development with Elgrith.

On 10 November 2026. Microsoft’s .NET support policy (last updated 13 October 2026, checked 23 October 2026) lists the same end date for .NET 9. After it, neither version gets patches, so apps on either should move to .NET 10, which is supported until 14 November 2028.
