FIG 02 · Quick answer
What are Magento development services?
Magento development services cover building, upgrading and supporting stores on Magento Open Source or Adobe Commerce. Elgrith builds custom themes (including Hyvä), extensions and ERP integrations, and upgrades older 2.4.x stores to supported versions such as 2.4.8 and 2.4.9 with matching PHP, so security patches keep arriving and checkout keeps converting.
- Newest release, supported until 31 May 2029
- 2.4.9
- Projects delivered since 2015
- 1,000+
- Clients across the USA, UK and India
- 250+
- Your code, store data and IP

FIG 03 · Why it matters
Every Magento version has a support date. Many stores have passed theirs.
From Adobe’s lifecycle policy, Adobe’s October 2026 security bulletin note and php.net, checked on 23 Oct 2026.
01
11 Aug 2026
Magento 2.4.6 left standard support
Adobe gives each release “a three-year standard support window from the General Availability (GA) date”. For 2.4.6, released on 14 March 2023, that window closed on 11 August 2026.

2.4.7+
Open Source patches, only from 2.4.7
Adobe’s note on bulletin APSB26-153: “Open Source merchants can only download patches for version 2.4.7 or later.” Open Source stores on 2.4.6 or older cannot download them.

31 Dec 2026
PHP 8.2 security support ends
Magento 2.4.6 runs on PHP 8.2 or 8.1, and php.net lists 31 Dec 2026 as the end of security support for PHP 8.2. Most 2.4.6 stores have a PHP move to plan as well as a Magento one.

Is your Magento version still supported?
Run bin/magento --version (or check composer.json), then find your release below. If its standard support date has passed, plan the upgrade now.
| Release | General availability | End of standard support | PHP | Status, Oct 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2.4.5 and older | 9 Aug 2022 or earlier | 12 Aug 2025 or earlier | Older branches | Out of standard support: upgrade |
| 2.4.6 | 14 Mar 2023 | 11 Aug 2026 | 8.2, 8.1 | Standard support ended: upgrade |
| 2.4.7 | 9 Apr 2024 | 31 May 2027 | 8.3, 8.2 | Supported: plan the next move |
| 2.4.8 | 8 Apr 2025 | 31 May 2028 | 8.4, 8.3 | Supported: a good upgrade target |
| 2.4.9 | 12 May 2026 | 31 May 2029 | 8.5 | Newest: check extension support first |
Dates from Adobe’s lifecycle policy (last updated 18 Sep 2026) and PHP versions from Adobe’s system requirements (last updated 13 Oct 2026), checked 23 Oct 2026. Adobe’s extended and security-only periods apply to Adobe Commerce only, not to Magento Open Source.

FIG 06 · Magento 2.4.x upgrades
How we upgrade a Magento 2.4.x store
Most failed upgrades break on extensions and PHP, not on Magento itself. We audit first, upgrade on staging and test the money paths before anything goes live.
1. Audit
- Check
- Magento, PHP, database, search and every extension version
- Find
- Core edits, abandoned modules and custom overrides
- Output
- A written upgrade plan in your fixed quote
2. Extension audit
- Sort
- Keep, update, replace or remove
- Why
- Extensions are where most upgrades break
3. PHP and database
- PHP
- 8.3 or 8.4 for 2.4.8; 8.5 for 2.4.9
- Database
- MySQL 8.0 reached end of support on 30 Apr 2026 (Adobe)
4. Upgrade on staging
- How
- Composer upgrade on a copy of your live store
- Then
- Custom code fixed for the new release
5. Test plan
- Test
- Checkout, payments, tax, ERP sync and search
- Sign-off
- You check it in a weekly demo
6. Release
- How
- A planned go-live with a rollback ready
- Then
- A patch calendar and the next upgrade date
FIG 07 · Migration
Upgrade, re-platform or stay? Magento migration services
An agency that only sells one platform has one answer. We build on all four, so we start from your catalogue, integrations and budget, then recommend.
06principles
Stay and upgrade
Move to 2.4.8 or 2.4.9 when your B2B rules, catalogue or integrations need what Magento does well.
Stay and refresh the front end
Keep the back end, replace the theme with Hyvä, and fix speed without a re-platform.
Move to WooCommerce
Commerce on WordPress, when content matters as much as the shop.
WooCommerce developmentData and SEO migration
Products, customers, orders and every URL carried over with a 301 map.

Monthly block of hours
A set number of developer hours each month for fixes, small features and patching.
Dedicated Magento developer
One full-time developer on your store, in your tools and your stand-ups.
How dedicated teams work

Hire dedicated developersAPIs and integrations

FIG 09 · Speed and SEO
Speed, SEO and accessibility for Magento stores
A slow category page loses sales before the product page loads. We fix speed, search and accessibility in the templates, not with another extension.
06principles
Core Web Vitals
Full-page cache, Varnish, image formats, lighter JavaScript and Hyvä where the theme is the bottleneck.
Search-safe structure
Clean category and layered-navigation URLs, canonical tags and product structured data.
Upgrades without ranking loss
URLs, redirects and metadata checked before and after every release.
The wider ecommerce picture
Design, conversion and platform choice for online stores.

FIG 10 · Support
Magento support and maintenance
Adobe publishes security bulletins on a regular cycle. A supported store applies them; an unsupported one collects risk.
06principles
Security patching
Adobe security patches (APSB bulletins) applied within a window agreed in your written scope.
Upgrade calendar
Magento and PHP support dates tracked, with each upgrade planned before support runs out.
Extension updates
Extensions kept compatible, and abandoned ones replaced before they block an upgrade.
Monitoring
Error logs, cron, indexers and queues watched, with alerts to your team and ours.
Backups and restores
Code and database backups, with restores tested on staging.
Ongoing maintenance
Monthly updates and small fixes from the team that knows your store.

FIG 16 · Decide
Upgrade Magento or move to Shopify Plus, BigCommerce or WooCommerce?
Upgrading Magento is not always the right answer, and neither is leaving it. This is how the options compare for a store on an out-of-support release.
| Upgrade Magento (2.4.8 / 2.4.9) | Move to Shopify Plus | Move to BigCommerce | Move to WooCommerce | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Best for | Complex B2B, large catalogues, deep custom logic | Brands that want less to run | Mid-market and B2B on a hosted platform | Content-led stores on WordPress |
| Hosting | Your servers or Adobe’s cloud | Hosted by Shopify | Hosted by BigCommerce | Your choice of host |
| What you keep | Your code, data and integrations | Data and URLs (redirected) | Data and URLs (redirected) | Data and URLs (redirected) |
| Ongoing work | Patches and an upgrade every few years | Apps and theme updates | Apps, theme and plan reviews | WordPress, plugin and PHP updates |

Magento Open Source vs Adobe Commerce
| Magento Open Source | Adobe Commerce | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | The open-source edition you host and run | Adobe’s licensed edition, self-hosted or on Adobe’s cloud |
| Licence | Open-source licence | Licensed from Adobe; priced by quote |
| B2B features | Through extensions | Company accounts, shared catalogues and quotes built in |
